Pseudogap and its influence on normal and superconducting states of cuprates

چکیده
A model incorporating simultaneous superconducting and lattice instabilities has been studied in detail to estimate the nature of coupling and inter-play between them. The phase diagram is obtained in the temperature-filling plane at different values of the parameters of the model. It is found that a pseudogap develops in the distorted phase that inhibits the appearance of the superconducting transition. The superconducting instability is strongest for the regime of filling where the van Hove singularity in the 2D density of states is close to the chemical potential. The pseudogap, developed in the distorted phase, is a function of temperature via the temperature dependence of the distortion itself. Transport properties, namely resistivity and thermopower are found to be strongly dependent on the variations of the pseudogap. PACS No. 74.25.Dw ,71.10.Hf ,74.20.Fg

Two decades ago the epoch making discovery of high Tc cuprate superconductivity by Bednorz and Müller shocked the world’s superconductivity community. However, already in 1979 and 1980, the first heavy fermion superconductor CeCu2Si2 and organic superconductor (TMTSF)2PF6 have been discovered respectively. Also we know now that all these superconductors are unconventional and nodal. Further t...
متن کاملStrong coupling superconductivity, pseudogap, and Mott transition.
An intricate interplay between superconductivity, pseudogap, and Mott transition, either bandwidth driven or doping driven, occurs in materials. Layered organic conductors and cuprates offer two prime examples. We provide a unified perspective of this interplay in the two-dimensional Hubbard model within cellular dynamical mean-field theory on a 2×2 plaquette and using the continuous-time quant...
متن کاملThermodynamics and phase diagram of high temperature superconductors.
Thermodynamic quantities are derived for superconducting and pseudogap regimes by taking into account both amplitude and phase fluctuations of the pairing field. In the normal (pseudogap) state of the underdoped cuprates, two domains have to be distinguished: near the superconducting region, phase correlations are important up to temperature T(phi). Above T(phi), the pseudogap region is determi...
متن کاملPSEUDOGAPS AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF THE TWO-DIMENSIONALt-J MODEL
The photoemission and magnetic properties of cuprate perovskites have been extensively studied during the last few years, both because of their unusual behaviour and in the hope that they might provide insight into the physical origin of high-temperature superconductivity. Among these properties the pseudogap observed in photoemission [1–3] and the magnetic pseudogap revealed in the static susc...
متن کاملGap and pseudogap evolution within the charge-ordering scenario for superconducting cuprates
We describe the spectral properties of underdoped cuprates as resulting from a momentumdependent pseudogap in the normal state spectrum. Such a model accounts, within a BCS approach, for the doping dependence of the critical temperature and for the two-parameter leading-edge shift observed in the cuprates. By introducing a phenomenological temperature dependence of the pseudogap, which finds a ...
